S.S Feminism

Upon checking out the Guerrilla girls website and browsing the gallery of photos they made to promote their messages of women not being made to be acknowledged sexually reminded me of when I thought feminism was a bad movement. Before entering New Jersey City University, I was oblivious to the facts of the feminist movement and what it meant to bring to our society that is heavily based around the "influence" of men. I remember seeing all the negative counter aspects of the feminist movement that gave it a bad name and thats all I knew about it. I never actually researched them up or anything, but from what the media was telling me and the videos I saw of violent angry feminist protesters, it gave me the impression that the feminist movement was a group of angry women who wanted to dominate men and make the world theirs only. This is a huge misrepresentation of the feminist movement, as they want to have equality among men. This I learned when I entered NJCU in my freshman year and was contracted for work study with the PEP department (Peers Educating Peers). I learned alot in two semesters that I stayed contracted with them, learning more about sexuality, gender fluidity, oppression of many minorities and what their movements were striving for and not the negative perceptions the media such as the news was trying to portray. Now I do support the feminist movement and try to always research a activist movement instead of listening or seeing counter media, because they are used to manipulate people to go against that public sphere.
