Mi Virgencita de Guadalupe- Frida Kahlo, Autobiographical Selfie |
Frida Kahlo's work and biography inspired me to take this selfie of myself and the Virgen Mary since religion plays a huge role in my family and life. As a Hispanic woman, many can already assume "she is Catholic," which in this case is true. I am proud to be Mexican and a Catholic. As shown above, I bow my head down to her to show respect and love for her. The Virgen Mary, in my religion, is considered a saint, and us Catholics pray to saints. I pray to her after I wake up and before I go to sleep. I was taught to do this everyday ever since I was younger and I continue to do it. Being Hispanic and having pride in my religion partially defines me. To show I always keep her with me, my God-parents bought me a chain, which was also blessed, of the Virgen Mary in which I always have on around my neck. Frida Kahlo expressed how she felt in her paintings and pictures. I expressed how I felt in this image, and that is blessed.
